Discover the Hidden Gem of Florida: Venice Beach

Welcome to Venice, Florida - a picturesque Gulf Coast town that's a perfect destination for a relaxing beach vacation. With miles of pristine beaches, lush parks and nature preserves, and a vibrant local culture, Venice is a hidden gem that's just waiting to be discovered.

Did We Say Beach? Of Course We Did!

One of the main attractions of Venice is its beautiful beaches. From the white sands of Venice Beach to the secluded shores of Caspersen Beach, there's plenty of space to soak up the sun and enjoy the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. And if you're looking for a quieter spot, head to the beaches in the early morning or late afternoon when the crowds have thinned out.

There are several stunning beaches in Venice, Florida, each with its own unique charm. Here are some of the top Venice beaches to add to your travel list:

1. Venice Beach - This expansive beach offers white sands, crystal-clear waters, and a wide variety of amenities, including picnic areas, showers, and lifeguards on duty.

2. Caspersen Beach - Known for its secluded shores and abundance of seashells, Caspersen Beach is a great spot for beachcombing and nature walks. Plus, it's one of the few dog-friendly beaches in the area. You see many people beachcombing for shark teeth. According to locals, if you are lucky enough to find one, you may find the motherload of shark's teeth.

3. Brohard Beach and Paw Park - If you're traveling with your furry friend, Brohard Beach and Paw Park is a must-visit destination. This dog-friendly beach offers a fenced-in area for pups to run and play, as well as showers and water fountains.

4. Nokomis Beach - Located just north of Venice, Nokomis Beach is a great spot for swimming, surfing, and fishing. The beach is also known for its striking jetty, which offers stunning views of the Gulf.

No matter which Venice beach you choose to visit, you're sure to be impressed by the natural beauty and laid-back atmosphere of this Gulf Coast town. So pack your sunscreen, grab your beach towel, and come experience the best of Venice's shores for yourself!

Dolphin and Boat Watch at the Jetty

The Venice Jetty is a popular attraction located at the south end of Nokomis Beach in Venice, Florida. It can also be acceced through the South Jetty Beach. This man-made structure extends out into the Gulf of Mexico and provides stunning views of the water and surrounding coastline.

The jetty was originally constructed in the 1960s as a way to prevent erosion along the beach, and has since become a beloved spot for locals and visitors alike. Today, the jetty is a popular destination for fishing, surfing, and sunset watching.

One of the most striking features of the Venice Jetty is its size. At over 700 feet long, it's one of the longest jetties in Florida, and provides ample space for fishermen to cast their lines and surfers to catch some waves.

In addition to its recreational opportunities, the Venice Jetty is also a great spot for wildlife viewing. Visitors can often spot dolphins, manatees, and sea turtles in the waters around the jetty, as well as a variety of shorebirds on the beach. I didn't get to see any manatees or sea turtles but saw plenty of dolphins. It was kind of addictive. You see one, then you stare, then another one pops up. Makes you not want to leave.

Beautiful Parks Galore

For nature lovers, there are also several parks and preserves in the area where you can hike, bike, or kayak through some of Florida's most beautiful natural landscapes. The Jelks Preserve and the Myakka River State Park are both great options for outdoor adventures, and offer a chance to spot some of the local wildlife, such as alligators, manatees, and ospreys. For a more somber park, visit Patriot's Park where you can see rubble from the 9/11 attacks and pay tribute to those who passed in that terrible tragedy.

Museums and Art

Venice, Florida is a town with a vibrant arts scene, and there are several museums and galleries that are must-visits for any art lover. Here are a few of the top art and museum destinations in Venice:

1. Venice Art Center - This community art center features exhibitions, classes, and events throughout the year, showcasing the work of local artists in a variety of mediums. You may even run into a silent auction as I did. Wish me luck!

2. Venice Museum and Archives - This small museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of Venice and the surrounding area, with exhibits on everything from the town's early settlers to the circus performers who wintered there in the early 20th century. This museum is free Mon-Wed. The staff there is super friendly. Michelle was able to help me out and was very informative. Don't forget to leave cash at the cash box to support this cute museum and help to continue to run it.

3. The Venice Symphony - For music lovers, the Venice Symphony is a must-see. This community orchestra presents a variety of classical and contemporary works throughout the year, with concerts held in the Venice Performing Arts Center.

Collectors Gallery and Framery - This local gallery showcases the work of over 100 artists, including paintings, sculptures, and jewelry. Visitors can also browse the gallery's collection of antique maps and prints.
