As I stepped out of my car and into the warm Florida air, I couldn't help but feel excited about my next adventure in Sarasota. Located on the Gulf Coast of Florida, Sarasota is a charming and lively city with a lot to offer. After visiting many different beach towns in Florida, Sarasota wins the top destination for me.
One of my favorite things about Sarasota is the beach. Siesta Key Beach, located just a short drive from downtown Sarasota, is consistently ranked as one of the best beaches in the world. The crystal-clear water and soft, white sand make it the perfect place to spend a relaxing afternoon soaking up the sun.
Lido Beach has plenty of free parking spaces, nice and clean public bathrooms with private changing stalls. The shuttle will drop you off at different beach stops so no need to drive. They also have great picnic tables hid in palm trees to escape the hot sun when you need a break.
I loved that there is a thriving Amish community that you see out and about even at the beach. They offer tours so check out the local Amish Country.
Bayfront Park is a beautiful and iconic park located in the heart of downtown Sarasota, Florida. With stunning waterfront views and a wide variety of amenities and attractions, it's no wonder that Bayfront Park is a beloved destination for both locals and tourists alike.
One of the highlights of Bayfront Park is the large, open lawn area that stretches along the waterfront. This space is perfect for picnics, playing catch, or simply relaxing in the sun. The lawn is also home to several annual events, including the Sarasota Chalk Festival and the Sarasota Bayfront Music Festival.
Here you can find the beautiful Mariner Sculpture. A must see. And if you are lucky enough like me, you may find an art display featuring paintings from students worldwide.
There are many other parks in Sarasota but this one was definetly one of my favorite spots.
The city is home to a thriving arts scene, with several theaters, galleries, and museums to explore. One of my favorite museums is The Ringling, which is dedicated to the life and legacy of John Ringling, the founder of the Ringling Bros. Circus. The museum features a collection of art and artifacts from Ringling's personal collection, as well as temporary exhibitions throughout the year. You may run into art exhibts at park and sculptures can be found all throught the city and keys.
Of course, no visit to Sarasota would be complete without sampling some of the delicious seafood the city is famous for. From fresh Gulf shrimp to succulent stone crab claws, Sarasota's seafood scene is truly outstanding. Some of my favorite spots include Ophelia's on the Bay and the iconic Marina Jack's, both of which offer stunning waterfront views in addition to mouthwatering seafood dishes. There are plenty of options in all price ranges to accomadate any traveler.
Sarasota is a shopper's paradise, with a wide range of options to suit every taste and budget. Whether you're looking for high-end designer boutiques, unique local shops, or sprawling shopping malls, you'll find it all in this vibrant city.
One of the most popular shopping destinations in Sarasota is St. Armands Circle. This charming shopping and dining district is located on Lido Key and is home to over 130 upscale shops, restaurants, and cafes. I absolutely loved the center square with violinst playing for the public. Be sure to tip especially if you stop and take a video or picture with street performers.
One of the best ways to explore Sarasota is by taking advantage of the city's free trolley system. The trolley runs along a 4.6-mile route and stops at several popular destinations throughout the city, including Siesta Key Beach, downtown Sarasota, and St. Armands Circle.
The trolley is a convenient and eco-friendly way to get around Sarasota, and it's completely free to ride. The trolley runs every 30 minutes from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day, making it easy to hop on and off as you explore the city.
Not only is the trolley a practical way to get around, but it's also a fun and unique way to experience Sarasota. As you ride along the route, you'll enjoy scenic views of the Gulf of Mexico and the city's historic architecture.
Whether you're a visitor to Sarasota or a longtime resident, the free trolley is a great way to explore all that this vibrant city has to offer. So grab a seat, relax, and let the trolley take you on a tour of the best that Sarasota has to offer.
This trolley is a Vloggers Paradise. Open air and you can just hop on and off! This was definetly my favorite activity as I am usually a solo traveler and many times I miss photo opportunities because I am driving.
Tips are appreciated by the drivers. They are not tour guides but were very willing to talk about the area with me.
As I explored Sarasota, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to experience all that this wonderful city has to offer. With its stunning beaches, rich cultural heritage, and delicious cuisine, Sarasota truly is a gem of the Gulf Coast a top destination in SWFL.
